Live Music Movement Foundation presents Another Evening of Jazz – ‘Exploring the Voice.’ Accomplished trumpeter and composer Leslie Drayton is back along with friends Marcus Alexander, Weldon Scott, and Tyler Henderson. This time, they’ll be joined by Houston native and vocalist Ki’Ora Michelle. Ki’Ora began singing in the church choir at the tender age of six. At age twelve she performed at New York City’s famed Carnegie Hall with her middle school concert choir as a lead soloist. She credits her experience at Carnegie and multiple talent competition wins for inspiring “a deep hunger…to pursue music professionally”. While studying classical music in college, Ki’Ora realized her interest in the genre was diminishing. She called it “a love/hate relationship…and she never did it for the right reasons.” Instead, she decided to use her classical training to follow her true passion, jazz. “I began to fall in love with the history, the culture, the vocalists, the horn players…the feel.” Her brand of artistry combines rhythm & blues tone with traditional swing/bebop scat to jazz and other alternative music forms.
For Ki’Ora music is her highest vehicle of expression. She is able to explore and share her emotions through singing. From jazz to gospel to rhythm & blues and classical, she does it all with abundant skill and humility. Experience the voice during Another Evening of Jazz – ‘Exploring the Voice’ on Sunday, February 18, 2018, 5:00 p.m. at Ovations Night Club. Seating is limited so get your tickets now.
