The Live Music Movement Foundation proudly presents Los Angeles-based pianist and composer Paul Cornish and Friends in a special holiday concert at 7:00 pm on December 30, 2023, at the Houston Piano Store, 1600 13th W. Street, Houston 77008.
Paul is one of the exceptional musicians to emerge from Houston’s High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. Since relocating to Los Angeles, he has completed an undergraduate degree at USC and was awarded a full fellowship to attend the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz at UCLA where he completed his master’s degree. Paul is being recognized as one of the significant new voices on piano and keyboards. His professional credits include associations with such notable artists as Joshua Redman, Louis Cole, Mark Guiliana, HAIM, Snoh Aalegra, Terrace Martin, and Kanye West. The ambiance of The Houston Piano Company provides an intimate and up-close experience for the audience and performers. Paul’s anticipated dynamic performance will conclude a busy year of presentations for the Live Music Movement Foundation. Tickets for the event are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. Join the Live Music Movement Foundation in welcoming brilliant young talent, cellist Braylon Hughes, in his debut professional performance. Braylon is a senior at Kinder High School for the Performing and Visual Arts where he performs with the Symphony Orchestra, String Orchestra and school theatrical productions. His passion for music was observed when he was introduced to the cello in the 5th grade. Since that time, his talent has progressed at an astonishingly rapid pace and he is emerging as a gifted performer.
Braylon is a member of the Opus One Chamber Music School where he is the cellist in the Serenade String Quartet. He is also a member of the Houston Youth Symphony. He participates in the American Festival for the Arts Summer Music Festival and was selected first chair for two summers, 2022 and 2023. Braylon is also a participant at the Sphinx Performance Academy in Cleveland, Ohio, which is an intensive summer chamber music and solo performance program with a focus on cultural diversity. Beginnings: Introducing Braylon Hughes will consist of Braylon performing pieces with piano and cello, and pieces with string quartet. The program will feature works by Lawrence Brown: Five Negro Spirituals for cello and piano. Shostakovich: Cello Sonata in D minor 1st movement and Gabriel Fauré: Elegie will also be performed. For string quartet, William Grant Still: Lyric Quartette 1st and 3rd movements, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor: The Five Fantasy Pieces 2nd and 3rd movements, and Brahms: String Quartet No. 1 4th movement will be performed. Listen to new music that is a mix of various music genres along with special arrangements of favorite tunes. This in-person event will take place on Saturday, September 16, 2023, 6:15 p.m. at Houston Piano Company, 1600 West 13th Street, Houston, TX 77008. Born and raised in the heart of Third Ward, The Biggest Brandon is a singer songwriter, pianist, producer, flautist, and pedagogue. His music reflects a dynamic fusion of Neo-Soul, jazz, R&B, hip-hop and classical music. He attended Kinder HSPVA and received his bachelors in Vocal Performance from Prairie View A&M University. The Biggest Brandon has toured with the gulf coast soul band The Suffers and is an active member in Jawaad Taylor’s band alongside James Brandon Lewis. As a solo artist, he has performed at The Wortham Theatre, Jones Hall, Miller Outdoor theater, and internationally in Medellin, Colombia, and London, England. He has been recognized by the Houston Chronicle as a rising artist to watch. As of 2022, he is a Houston Arts Alliance multi-grant recipient. You can find his music on various streaming platforms. Braylon Hughes, 16 and an aspiring cellist, is pursuing musical excellence. He began playing the cello in the 5th grade, exploring his musical potential through the instrument. The first tune Braylon mastered was "Dragonhunter" by Richard Meyer. He also esteems world-famous cellists such as Rostropovich, Yo-Yo Ma, Sheku Kanneh-Mason, and Jacqueline du Pre.
