In keeping with the theme “Live Performance is in Unusual Spaces” and kicking off the “New Artist Series” for 2020, Live Music Movement Foundation will present Vibraphonist and Percussionist Jalen Baker on Sunday January 26, 5-8pm at Notsuoh Bar, 314 Main St., Houston 77002. Tickets are available at www.bownpapertickets.com. This is a major coup for LMMF to present this fine young musician between his travels throughout the United States and beyond. Jalen brings a unique blend of original modern jazz compositions and jazz standards that make for an exciting performance. Jalen Baker, born in Washington, DC and raised in Houston, is a vibraphonist, percussionist, educator and composer whose early training involved both classical and jazz education. Jalen received his Bachelor of Arts in Jazz Studies from Columbia College Chicago and his Master of Music in Jazz Studies from Florida State University. He distinguished himself as a jazz vibraphonist and received accolades including outstanding soloist at both the Notre Dame and Elmhurst Jazz Festivals and was one of two students chosen to represent Columbia at the Arcevia Jazz Festival in Arcevia Italy. While in Chicago, Jalen was also an active musician playing in various venues around town with the Jarrard Harris Quartet, The Dod Kalm Quartet, Human Bloom and his own group Musiki Tano. He was also chosen to be a member of the Chicago Next Gen Allstars by the Chicago Jazz institute. During his tenure at Florida State, Jalen continued to distinguish himself as a performer and was chosen as a Ravinia Jazz Fellow. He was an active performer with the Leon Anderson Quartet, The Ulysses Owens Trio and The Ulysses Owens Quartet as well as leading his own band Musiki Tano in venues in and around Georgia and Northern Florida. Jalen was recently the featured guest with the Savannah Jazz Orchestra. This is a performance of great jazz from an amazingly talented young man that you don’t want to miss. Join us for this great time. Ample street parking and parking lots are available within a block of the bar. The light rail stop at the Preston and Main station is directly in front of the bar.
