Weldon met trumpeter and composer Leslie Drayton at a big band master class held at TSU. The two remained in contact and Weldon was invited to participate in the musical event Evening of Jazz. The event featured an enchanting mix of original compositions, jazz standards, and holiday favorites in late 2017 which allowed Weldon to showcase his talent as a bassist to a wider audience.
Whether you’re a jazz enthusiast or recently became acquainted with jazz music, there’s no denying Weldon’s skillful handling of the instrument. It just sounds good to the ears and is more than enough to catch and keep an audience. Coupled with a poise beyond his years and a lively rapport with fellow musicians on the stage, Weldon is able to express himself and as he puts it “move others in ways that…can’t [be] put in words.” When on stage with other performing musicians, accompanied by vocals or not, Weldon helps to craft a captivating musical experience that won’t soon be forgotten. Weldon will be accompanying Leslie Drayton and Friends for another musical experience on Sunday, June 10, 2018, 5:00 p.m. at Ovations Night Club in Rice Village. Don’t miss a chance to experience Weldon on the bass at the Spring into Summer concert. Hope to see you there!
