SYMPHONIC JAZZ CONCERTThe Santa Monica College Music Department will present a program that is a collaboration between the Santa Monica College Orchestra and Jazz Ensemble. The performance takes place on Sunday, October 5, 2014, 4:00 p.m., at The Broad Stage at SMC Performing Arts Center, 1310 11th St, Santa Monica, CA 90401. This program will present pieces from the late Classical Era, original jazz music, and jazzy favorites.
in the early 20th century giving each of the twelve tones in the chromatic scale equal importance. The full symphonic orchestra with a rhythm section and soloists Keith Fiddmont on tenor sax and Lesa Terry on violin will perform the piece.
The orchestra will open the program with works by Beethoven. Pianist, composer, arranger, Bill Cunliffe will be featured with the combined ensembles on his arrangement of songs from West Side Story (Bernstein), and Concert in F (Gershwin). In addition, they’ll play a selection from Bird and Strings (Just Friends) with Keith Fiddmont on alto sax.
